SpendSmart
SpendSmart (“we,” “our,” or “the app”) is developed by Brahmjot Singh Tatla. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the SpendSmart iPhone application.
Summary
- No account required — we do not ask you to create a login.
- Data stays on your device — budgets, expenses, goals, quiz results, and notes are stored locally.
- No advertising or analytics SDKs — we do not embed third-party trackers in the app.
- On-device machine learning — ML models run on your iPhone and do not send your text to our servers.
Information the app stores on your device
SpendSmart saves the following types of information locally using iOS storage (UserDefaults) so the app can function:
- Monthly and category budgets
- Expense entries (amount, category, date, optional notes)
- Savings goals and deposit history
- Purchase ideas and justifications (Think tab)
- Daily quiz attempts and scores
- Lesson progress and profile data such as streaks or coins used in the app
- Derived spending insights generated on-device
We do not receive or store this information on our own servers because we do not operate backend services for SpendSmart.
Information we do not collect
SpendSmart does not collect, through the app:
- Name, email address, or phone number (unless you voluntarily email support)
- Precise location
- Contacts, photos, camera, or microphone data
- Payment card or bank credentials
- Advertising identifiers for cross-app tracking
Machine learning
SpendSmart uses Apple Core ML models on your device to:
- Suggest whether a described purchase may be a “need” or “want”
- Generate spending-pattern insights from recent expense categories
Processing happens locally. Model inputs (such as text you type) are not transmitted to us for inference.
Third-party services
The app does not integrate third-party analytics, advertising, or social login SDKs. Distribution and updates are provided through Apple’s App Store, which is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
Children
SpendSmart is a financial literacy tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through support email, contact us and we will delete correspondence as appropriate.
Data retention and deletion
Your data remains on your device until you delete it within the app, remove the app, or erase your device. Uninstalling SpendSmart removes locally stored app data unless you later restore from an iPhone backup that includes SpendSmart data.
Security
Data benefits from your iPhone’s device encryption and passcode/biometric protection. No method of electronic storage is 100% secure; keep your device updated and protected.
Your choices
- You can edit or delete budgets, expenses, goals, and purchase notes inside the app.
- You can stop using the app and delete it from your iPhone at any time.
- You may contact us with privacy questions (see below).
International users
Because data is stored only on your device, it generally does not leave your country unless you back up or sync your device using services you control (for example, iCloud Backup).
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Effective date” at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
